Brushstrokes of Light:
Exploring the Journey of Fine Art Oil Painting with Julie Brayton
Let me take you back to December. I was so happy to have a painting suddenly be so popular. This particular painting I had done probably three years ago now. I would bring it to the outdoor shows and people would look at it but I wasn’t getting an overwhelming feeling of approval.
This business can be hard!! I put myself and my work out there and well, people can say the darndest things.
Moving on with my story, I started to pull back on bringing this painting. It was big and I needed room for others I got a better feeling about. One year however, a couple asked me to remake that painting a size smaller for, get this, their house that wasn’t built yet. My kind of client!!
We artists always hear, “I’ve got to measure” Lol!
They new exactly what they needed and where it would go. Fast forward over two years later my gallerist in Jamestown, Fuller Gallery, saw the painting and said she would like to have it in her gallery. Well it got a lot of attention to where one couple who couldn’t afford the price tag asked about a canvas print the same size of the painting.
Another perfect client, thinking outside the box.
I made that, delivered it and they were thrilled. Not too long after that, the original painting sold as a gift to a person who moved from Jamestown RI to Westerly RI. Essentially, I sold that painting three times! Whoohoo! One can just never know! People were still asking about the painting even after it was sold.
My Gallerist and I decided I needed to do something like it. I did a smaller remake of the first painting changing some elements to make it different but also made another large painting that has that eye catching it factor. Those two paintings are hanging in Fuller Gallery now.
See those paintings below.
Some of the 2024 color predictions are light yellows, greens, lavenders, peach, and more.
I’ll go further into this next time but as I said last post my new Tranquil Tides Collection fits right in!
Speaking of which, I will be having an unveiling of this collection the 26th of April. If you would like to attend, please let me know by responding to this email. See The Invitation Below

My Why
My goal or mission is to bring reminders and connection to the importance each individual has through the connection to nature. How we all can honor the essence of who we have always been meant to be. Creativity, whether through collecting art or creating it, is a healing force that allows us to embrace, tell and own our stories in a transformative and ultimately joyful way.
Nature and art both give me that feeling of awe and inspiration. Your work is absolutely beautiful!
Hi Stephanie,
Thank you so much for your response! Nature has the same effect on me as well. I get a feeling of comfort and peace as well.
