Brushstrokes of Light:
Exploring the Journey of Fine Art Oil Painting with Julie Brayton
I was looking through the paintings I started Plein Air painting and found the one of Hounds Marsh a marsh in Stonington CT. I always find myself being drawn to the studies I painted from life because the colors are a direct response to my intial reaction and the feelings of being out there in close connection to the subject.
I look back at the 40×30 painting I sold of this study and can say I was happy with the painting but something was missing for me. A 40×30 size is a bit big for me to paint from life at this time so I plan to paint this again for the upcoming shows in October using the study I did. Keep in mind, the study is rough, not finished. It definitely needs refinement but certain things I see the freshness of color from my direct response to the scene.
BTW, Old Saybrook CT coming up 4&5th and Scituate RI 11-13. I hope to see you.
I have taken my students to the marsh where we experienced both sunny and grey day light. That was great! I couldn’t have asked for a better experience for them. It’s so important to “see” with your natural eye. A photograph simply cannot capture the nuances our natural eye can pick up.
So many times after a student has spent any time with me state how they see the world around them so differently!
Well, I’m heading out with the CT group to paint this morning. I’ll talk at you later!
P.S. Remeber, you can reply to this email with your comments!
Till Next Time!

My Why
My goal or mission is to bring reminders and connection to the importance each individual has through the connection to nature. How we all can honor the essence of who we have always been meant to be. Creativity, whether through collecting art or creating it, is a healing force that allows us to embrace, tell and own our stories in a transformative and ultimately joyful way.
