Brushstrokes of Light:
Exploring the Journey of Fine Art Oil Painting with Julie Brayton
Hey there!
As Usual, it’s been a while. Click to see Mr Bean Where’ve You Been?
I Hope you survived the winter! It reminded me of how it used to be.
A quick update on my health situation. As far as I know I am fine. I did have a second smaller occurance that was taken care of. I am now in a position where it could pop up at anytime but honestly, I’m too busy to worry about it. The Big News Is My Hair Has Grown!! Whoohoo!
On to what I’ve been up to.
I recently had a surprise call by someone who found me in the Ocean Community Chamber Directory in Westerly RI. I am not the only artist or gallery in the membership but she chose me!! I’m very flattered and also perplexed.
My art is focused around color. To honest, it’s not everyones cup of tea but over the course of time, I have had the experience of people being drawn in by the color, I think, but then asking me to do a more greyed down color palette.
In this case, the client asked for a subdued blue color palette pointing to a print of Winslow Homer she had hanging in the spot she wanted the new painting to go. She loved the Winslow Homer but it was too small for the space. I brought in several pieces as I would do but they were still a bit too “colorful” for her vision.
Winslow Homer was a tonalist meaning he painted the Named color of things, green grass, blue sky and often in a greyed tone of color. I saw a Winslow Homer Exhibit at the Boston Museum of Art. I was in awe of his work but he is not who I aspire to paint like. However, I am very flexible and have done very well at bringing to life my clients vison.
So as we conversed it became abundantly apparent she loved WH’s painting so I said how about I replicate it accept in oils. She said, GREAT!
When I deliverd the painting she was so thankful and appreciative. She told me the next day how wonderful it was to wake up to her new painting and that she actually liked it better than the original!! Wow!
I am taking new commission work through June. July and August are crazy show months. After that I’m open for winter work.
In the meantime, I have been spread thin between painting for upcoming shows and galleries to Etsy product development and a new “How To Paint” Charter Course where participants will work with me to build the perfect painting program. I’m launching that in May. For more information on those click the corrospondng links in the email.

My Why
My goal or mission is to bring reminders and connection to the importance each individual has through the connection to nature. How we all can honor the essence of who we have always been meant to be. Creativity, whether through collecting art or creating it, is a healing force that allows us to embrace, tell and own our stories in a transformative and ultimately joyful way.
