Brushstrokes of Light:

Exploring the Journey of Fine Art Oil Painting with Julie Brayton

When I first started painting I strove to paint every detail as accurately as possible. I think in some ways it was very lathargic. It took me away and I seemed to have a lot more patience back then. As my knowledge, tastes and skills grew, I became more interested in describing the subjecting in fewer brushstrokes. That is, believe it or not, a lot harder to do. Honestly, it is still  an on going  goal.

I have experimented with abstracts which I’m proud to say I have sold most of the ones I’ve done. To be an artist in business you have to pick a lane. That can be challenging because the whole reason for being an artist is to be creative.

In time I discovered Painting The Color Of Light. For me this keeps me engaged and having grown up around the coast my love for the ocean and coastal scenes never go away.  It goes without saying, the ocean, beach and local marshes bring a certain peace, calm and comfort. I am drawn to those feelings as I know many others are too.

I recently did a private art event where one of the attendees asked me to reformat a sqaure Marsh painting I did of a local marsh scene into a larger rectangular shape. I love the feeling of seeing how happy my paintings make a person feel owning one of my works. Watch That Work Being Made HERE

Since I last talked to you I sold, “View From Jamestown” from Fuller Gallery on Narragansett Avenue in Jamestown. Two people actually wanted the painting at the same time! Wow! View From Jamestown Sm

I left two new paintings with the gallery. Maybe you will take a ride!

This weekend is the Wickford Art Festival. I have brand new work to be seen. The show is held in Wilcox Park in Wickford RI.

This year will be the last year I do all or most of these shows. I’m shifting how I conduct business. I’ll keep you posted.

In the meantime, you may have missed my special offer on a new print drop. Weekapaug Light, seen below, was a very popular image that I have retired as an original but I now have as a limited edition print. Check out me signing it HERE.

My Why

My goal or mission is to bring reminders and connection to the importance each individual has through the connection to nature. How we all can honor the essence of who we have always been meant to be. Creativity, whether through collecting art or creating it, is a healing force that allows us to embrace, tell and own our stories in a transformative and ultimately joyful way.
